When Fast and Furious is mentioned anywhere, the mind of those who have been following the movie quickly drifts to fast cars, copious action, destruction, and this time, high tech calculated to take you through a world of excitement. Fast and Furious 8, tagged Fate of the Furious did not disappoint as the trailer shows.

On the plot: Just as Dom and Letty are beginning to relish their honeymoon; and Brian and Mia retire from the game; while the rest of the crew are exonerated. The “Wonder Team” reaches what seems like having a normal life. But all that changed when a mysterious woman steps in and ruins the team’s peace in its bud stage. Described as the “very definition of high tech terrorism”, this mysterious woman, Cipher (Charlize Theron), seduces and entraps Dom into a world of crime and betrayal of those closest to him, and the team now has to face an unprecedented test of their lives.

From the land of Cuba and the streets of New York, to the cold plains off the arctic Barents Sea, the formidable force embarks on a death mission, touring the globe to stop an ardent criminal from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage and as well bring home the man who made them a family. To do this successfully, they need the help of a notorious enemy, Deckard (Jason Statham).

Taglines help audience understand the plot of a movie, and this movie trailer makes use of taglines such as “the rules have changed” to inform the audience that it’s no longer business as usual. While the “on April 14” tagline points to the release date of the movie.

However, the trailer is a huge success. It does well in narrating the story of the film with carefully selected clips intended to give viewers a glimpse of the challenges the team faces in trying to bring home their friend and an invaluable member of the crew.

It opens with a scene showing a touch of sadness on the faces of the team members, with Hobbs’ (Dwayne Johnson) voice telling viewers that “Dom has gone rogue”, and immediately follows another scene of Dom attacking his once precious team… his wife being worst hit. Through statements such as “you gonna turn your back on family?”, “I know it looks bad, don’t give up on him so easily”, “we’ve only got one chance to make this family whole again”, the audience are clued into the storyline.

Although the film is classified under many genre –action, crime, and thriller, the dominant genre of the film is action and this is not hard to see as the trailer presents action clips that will make you take your pack of pop-corn home untouched. These clips hint one to expect all round action. Again, action isn’t the only thing you get from this movie as the trailer promises, there is also destruction as never seen in any movie before…#F8 in itself is destruction personified!

From the cuts, soundtrack, and shot dialogue employed in the trailer, the Fate of the Furious poses as a fast-paced film. The soundtrack (hard rap) blends well with genre of the movie in all aspects, as the trailer picks pace in tandem with the music.

Like many trailers, Fate of the Furious, leaves you expectant, and anticipating answers to questions already boggling your mind. It succeeds here using clips of Dwayne attempting to catch a missile, Dom driving over a sub-marine ship as he tries to dodge a missile fired at him, and his (Dom) blatant affirmation that he has no choice than to betray his family. These scenes create a certain eagerness that will drive you to the cinema. Creating questions is a fantastic way of forcing viewers to the cinema…lovely!

A Review of Tekno’s “Rara”

Song Title: Rara Artiste: Tekno Type: Single Genre: Afrobeat Duration: 4 minutes, 01 second Producer: Selebobo Year Released: December, 2016 Reviewer: Desmond Okon                                                A reviewer once said that Tekno has dropped a new hit song. “Not just that, it’s got a strong message!” he exclaimed. This goes to show that for a long time, since Fela passed on and Eedris Abdulkareem kept mute, there hasn’t been a song with a message rocking the media space –talk more of one with a strong and clear message. Tekno has broken the jinx of “message-less” and empty songs –and this makes it standout as a delectable hit song. The piece exudes a deja vu of the heydays when music championed a course an...
